Cancer has been identified as a silent killer in our community especially because of low level of awareness, late presentation and diagnosis and lack of affordable facilities for cancer management. This affects the people and has a negative impact on the workforce thus burdening the business enterprises and government agencies. It is estimated that over 60 people die from Cancer every day. No cure for Cancer has been effective to date. If awareness is emphasized, Cancer can be eradicated to the minimal. Thus the community must be sensitized more about cancer in order to save lives.

World Cancer day is celebrated on 4th Feb and Childhood cancer is commemorated on 15th February.  Cancer is a long-term disease that requires long term treatment and is usually very expensive. People must be sensitized more than ever before about cancer in order to save lives. Sensitization must be emphasized, especially among the grassroots people that tend to ignore the sickness, some resulting to witchdoctors. For this reason, we advocate the benefit of early detection to reduce risk factors associated with cancer and focus on the importance of frequent screening and an opportunity for early medical intervention and more so on lifestyle, diet, physical body exercise and among other healthy lifestyles. We believe that if awareness is emphasized, cancer can be eradicated to the minimal.

As part of solidarity and commemoration of these international days, Cancer Awareness Centre of Kenya in partnership with Madre Teresa Catholic Church, Zimmerman has organized a MEDICAL CAMP on Sunday 11th February 2018 at the church grounds starting 7.00am.

The target number of population is about 1,000 people. The ultimate goal of this project is to improve the face of health in our church and demystify the myths about Cancer; hence reduce both male and female morbidity and mortality due to prostrate, breast and cervical cancers during this year’s world cancer day commemoration. The following services shall be offered during the event;-
1)         Essential NCD Screening (Blood Sugars, Blood Pressure, Height & Weight, BMI)
2)        Screening for Reproductive Cancers (Cervical, Prostate & Breast).
3)        Health education and nutritional talks.
4)       Counseling and Social Support.
5)        HIV screening, risk-reduction, counseling and care information
6)       ENT and Dental services
7)        Deworming children
